Happy Sunday! It’s a cloudy one here in Austin, and I hope the weather is just as you like it wherever you are. Here’s what I’ve been turning to when I’m not out baking in the sun.
Folklore. Taylor Swift surprise releasing a new album full of sad summer tunes was an unexpected lifeline. Her album last summer inspired me to really jump into the dating scene and this is just what I need after all the heartbreak. Plus quarantine. Standouts for me include the opening track, “the 1” was a too-spot-on-for-comfort gut punch right out of the gate, “the last great american dynasty” thrilled me with its nod to Rhode Island, and “exile (feat. Bon Iver)” DESTROYED me. And did she read my mind when writing “this is me trying”? Still soaking up the rest and all their relentless feelings, but… ah, la douleur exquise!
Sharon Horgan on Desert Island Discs. The writer, actor, and producer has brought favorites like Catastrophe and I could listen to her talk all day.
I’ve just discovered Deliciously Ella’s podcast and really enjoyed this episode on The Flaws of Perfectionism as I catch up on the back catalog.
Week 20 of quarantine and you know I’m needing some extra comfort. I’m revisiting collection one of The Great British Bake Off and it’s like being with old friends. Rooting for all of them all over again!
Speaking of comfort, right now I’m listening to the audiobook of one of my favorite Harry Potter books Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which is narrated by the glorious Jim Dale. Harry’s just had his Firebolt broom taken away to be tested for jinxes, but he’s got a match coming up soon! Oh no! I’m as invested as ever.
Still giving a standing ovation to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s incredible speech standing up for herself to Ted Yoho on the House floor. "I am here because I have to show my parents that I am their daughter and that they did not raise me to accept abuse from men." You! Tell! Them!
It’s a brand new week, my friends. Let’s make it a good one.
xoxo,
Sally
